‘An Ode to The Valley’ at Siddhartha Art Gallery
The exhibition draws from the painted walls of Newa architecture, a cultural and ritual practice rooted in everyday life.Post Report
On Sunday, January 18, 2026, Siddhartha Art Gallery opened ‘An Ode to the Valley,’ a solo exhibition by artist Samrat Joshi. The opening was led by Sangeeta Thapa, director of the gallery, with Rabindra Puri as the chief guest.
Artists, cultural practitioners, and members of the creative community attended the event.
“My work, ‘An Ode to the Valley’, draws inspiration from the wall paintings found in the architecture of the old valley, a tradition that has largely faded, both in its material practices and in its original purpose,” says Joshi.
The exhibition reflects on the Kathmandu Valley’s architectural heritage and the collective labour that shaped its settlements. It is an expression of gratitude for the beauty of the valley, its people, and the values that continue to shape how the city is remembered, built, and imagined.
Entry to the exhibition is free and open to the public.
