On Saturday, Sarwodaya hosted a talent show and exhibition programme entitled ‘Adrishya Motiharu’ at South Western College in Kathmandu for artists with visual disabilities. Pradeep Gyawali, deputy general secretary of the CPN-UML, was the event’s chief guest. Sarvodaya’s President, Yubraj Wagle, chaired the programme, which was hosted by Treasurer Saugat Wagle.
Special guests included activist and politician Ranju Darshana, Saraswati Gyawali, Khemraj Gyawali, and motivational speaker Rajan Koirala. Representatives from sponsors also participated as guests.
The event featured performances by visually impaired artists from the band ‘Live Music Nepal’ and a dance presentation by executive committee member Rojina Pokhrel. Chiranjibi Thapa, a visually impaired poet, recited poetry and free verses. Additionally, materials used by visually impaired individuals for daily life and learning—such as Braille slates, styluses, computers, Braille sensors, cricket and football equipment, and chess sets—were exhibited.
As the keynote speaker, Treasurer Sushil Adhikari of the Brightstar Society emphasised the need for equal treatment and better understanding of those with visual disabilities. Wagle expressed concern over the lack of government support. Gyawali remarked that while the rights of persons with disabilities are guaranteed in the constitution as a fundamental right, further progressive reforms are necessary.
