Kathmandu hosts second iteration of Nepal International Theatre Festival

The second iteration of Nepal International Theatre Festival, a 9-day-long gala, started on Friday at Mandala Theatre featuring 18 theatre plays from 12 countries.
The first edition of the festival took place in 2019. There had been no other event since due to the Covid pandemic.
The opening ceremony was attended by Shabana Azmi, the Indian actress honoured with ‘Padma shri’ and ‘Padma Bhusan’ awards, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Balen shah, mayor of Kathmandu metropolitan city, and Srijana Subba, chairperson of Mandala Theatre.
Theatre plays from India, Italy, Bhutan, the United States, Russia, Britain, Belarus, Egypt, Spain, Sri Lanka, Argentina and Nepal are being showcased. There will also be masterclass, workshops, and other allied events. Around 200 artists, including national and international theatre artists, will be participating in the event.
The festival offers a total of 28 shows to the audience. The ticket for a play costs Rs300. Tickets can also be booked online.
