What is being called the ‘Female Viagra’ is all over the news. The United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved these little pink tablets to treat low sexual desire in women.
Here’s what you need to know about these pills known as ‘Addyi’
While a Viagra pill treats erectile dysfunction by improving blood flow to the penis, This drug treats hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), essentially a lack of libido that causes distress
Potential side-effects include low blood pressure, nausea and fainting
The FDA's approval comes with tough safety measures. This means that its usage is won’t be as widespread as with male Viagra
Patients must not drink alcohol while taking the drug, which can make the effects more severe.
While Viagra can be taken shortly before having sex, Addyi must be taken daily.
