Surkhet records 292.3 millimetres of rainfall in 24 hours.
Post Report
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said Surkhet recorded heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, with the Khanikhola rain gauge station measuring 292.3 millimetres. Monsoon activity has intensified in several parts of Nepal in recent days.
Senior meteorologist Pratibha Manandhar said a low-pressure system has triggered heavy but patchy rainfall in the western region. Panchase in Parbat district received 179.3 millimetres of rain, while Banke recorded 146.3 millimetres.
Other districts witnessing heavy rainfalls included Dang with 138 millimetres, Darchula 107 millimetres, and Sindhupalchok 105 millimetres.
More than a dozen stations reported 80-100 millimetres, while many others recorded 50-80 millimetres.
Manandhar said rainfall is expected to increase slightly through this afternoon and evening and may decrease tomorrow. Western regions have been affected by local systems, while eastern areas are influenced by a system from the Bay of Bengal.
The department added that Koshi, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces are experiencing strong monsoon effects, with cloudy conditions prevailing across the country.
The monsoon’s low-pressure line currently lies south of its average position in the east and near average in the west. Scattered light to moderate rainfall continues in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces, with a few areas in other provinces also affected.
