Police have arrested a man on the charge of murdering a nonagenarian woman in Tarkeshwar Municipality of Kathmandu district.

Narendra Shiva Bhakti, 39, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly murdering his neighbour, a 90-year-old woman, at a forest in Tarkeshwar-3 after robbing her of Rs50,000.

The body of the woman identified as Dilli Putuwar, who had gone missing since December 6, was found in the community forest two days after she went out of contact.

Superintendent of Police, Krishna Prasad Koirala, spokesperson of Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, said the woman was found dead with fatal injuries on her head.

A preliminary investigation by police revealed Narendra took the woman to the forest on the way to a slipper factory in Chisapani saying that a relief package is being distributed to the needy. Narendra, then allegedly murdered the woman and fled with the money she was carrying.

Superintendent of Police Koirala said Narendra, who was on the run soon after the incident, was arrested from Tarkeshwar-6.
