Around three dozen underage girls have been rescued from two dance bars in Thamel, Kathmandu on Wednesday.
A police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Lainchaur, rescued the girls working in Bebo Dance Bar and Amir Lounge Bar, Thamel.
According to the DSP Gautam KC of the Metropolitan Police Circle, Lainchaur, 12 children were rescued from Bebo Dance Bar and 23 from Amir Lounge Bar.
The children were rescued as part of ‘Rescue for underage children’ campaign. The campaign was started by the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu two weeks ago.
Police said the children aged between 15 and 17 used to work as dancers and waiters in the dance bars.
Meanwhile, police have arrested Bebo Dance Bar owner Nabin Gurung and Amir Lounge Bar owners Bishwo Shrestha and Raju Lama for investigation.
The rescued children have been handed over to their parents after counseling. The children are mostly from Sindhupalchok, Kavre, Dhading, Nuwakot and Gorkha.
Police said that a case under newly formulated Children Act 2075 will be lodged against them.
