A delegation comprising conservationists Alok Siddhi Tuladhar, Sailesh Shakya, Ganapati Lal Shrestha, Suraj Maharjan and Sanjay Adhikari submitted a written complaint to CIAA Commissioner Sabitri Thapa Gurung on Friday.
The complaint states that the use of concrete and dozer in the heritage site, without seeking prior consent of the DoA, was against the existing Ancient Monument Preservation Act, which says any historic building or heritage site built over a hundred years ago should be preserved in its original form.
The petitioners have blamed the KMC, DoA and the NRA for the use of concrete to reconstruct Rani Pokhari, a Malla-era monument which was severely damaged in the 2015 earthquake. “We seek a lawful punishment for parties involved in this irresponsible act of destroying our heritage. We also want to be assured that such incident is not repeated in the future,” said Tuladhar.
