KMC bolsters city police force

With the new addition, the metropolis now has a 192-strong city police.
“We need at least 500 cops to effectively manage the city,” said Bishnu Prasad Joshi, chief of KMC’s city police.
Last year the number of cops for KMC was fixed at 259, as per which the metropolis is still short of 67 cops.
The number of municipal police was fixed at 175 when the unit was first formed 22 years ago, when the population of the metropolis was around 400,000.
According to a KMC source, the population of in all 32 wards of the metropolis has reached over two million and every day. The metropolis receives over two dozen complaints related to various issue, according to the KMC.
Besides managing street vendors, KMC’s city police, deployed from 7am to 6pm every day, also keep an eye on litterbugs. KMC’s cops are mainly mobilised in Ratnapark, Sundhara, Chabahil, New Baneshwor, Jamal, Gaushala and Kalanki among other areas.
