Maoist Centre all for electoral alliances in Province 2
An office bearer meeting of the CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Province 2 committee, held in Janakpur on Tuesday, decided to forge alliances with Madhes-based parties in the third phase of local level elections. An office bearer meeting of the CPN (Maoist Centre)’s Province 2 committee, held in Janakpur on Tuesday, decided to forge alliances with Madhes-based parties in the third phase of local level elections.
Addressing a press meet in Janakpur, Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said his party would forge alliances with federal democratic republican forces, preferably the Madhes-based parties.
“Since the Maoist Centre is close to the Madhesi parties in terms of agenda, the party decided to have an alliance with them,” Province 2 coordinator of the party Biswonath Sah said.
Hinting at alliances with the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal, the Sanghiya Samajbadi Forum-Nepal and the Nepal Loktantrik Forum (NLF), Dahal called upon “progressive” forces to unite.
Even if the RJP-N, which boycotted two phases of the local level elections, failed to join the polls wholly, said Dahal, many of its constituents could participate in the vote. He was referring to the infighting in the RJP-Nepal over the issue of participation in the elections.
Since Province 2 in-charge of the party, Matrika Yadav, is in Thailand for medical care, coordinator Sah attended the meeting. Central leaders including Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Ram Bahadur Thapa, Urmila Aryal, Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel and Urban Development Minister Prabhu Sah were present in the meeting alongside Chairman Dahal.
Dahal said his party would take initiatives to upgrade Janakpur to a metropolis, pledging an “international” airport in the city. He also presented programmes of developing tourism infrastructure in the cultural city. The meeting decided to finalise the party’s candidates within a week.
