The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started management of the wires and cables hanging from utility poles.
Unmanaged and tangled wires on utility poles are an eyesore in the Capital.
According to Rabinman Shrestha, chief of the Environment Division of the KMC, wires hanging from the poles in Tripureshwor, Kamaladi and Kamal Pokhari have been already taken care of.
The KMC has collected 15 truckloads of such wires and cables and kept them at Teku.
The KMC launched the campaign to manage such tangled wires as they were not only an eyesore in the Capital city but also posed risk of fires due to electric short circuit.
The KMC has also initiated action against some internet providers for putting wires on poles haphazardly. Two internet service providers were penalised Rs 20,000, according to the KMC. The KMC has intensified its drive to make the city cleaner by managing and throwing away unmanaged wires and washing the streets to rid the city of dust.
