The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is planning to operate two sightseeing buses.
The metropolis plans to operate the two buses in the districts of the Valley—Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.
The service is expected to start in around three months, according to the KMC. The buses, often called hop-on-hop-off for they follow a route with fixed stops through a city allowing passengers an unlimited travel for a day or for a certain period of time for a single payment, will take tourists around the three historic cities of the Valley, including the durbar squares, as tourist guides brief them about the history, culture and tradition of the places they come across.
These buses will be procured under the Public Private Partnership model. The metropolis is set to invite tender next week.
“I have already held discussions with tourism entrepreneurs in Thamel who have shown keen interest to invest in the buses,” said Ishwor Poudel, chief and executive officer of the KMC.
