Hearing on IGP appointment postponed
The Supreme Court on Sunday postponed the hearing on the appointment of Nepal Police DIG Jaya Bahadur Chand to the post of Inspector General until Wednesday. The Supreme Court on Sunday postponed the hearing on the appointment of Nepal Police DIG Jaya Bahadur Chand to the post of Inspector General until Wednesday.
A division bench of Justices Hari Krishna Karki and Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada was to conduct the hearing on Sunday.
The hearing was deferred as the Office of Attorney General and Chand were not informed about a supplementary application filed by advocate Kapil Dev Dhakal.
“The hearing will be conducted only after defendants are formally informed about the application,” said Bishwaraj Poudel, joint spokesperson for the SC.
The government on February 12 had appointed Chand to the post of IG. Hours later, the apex court, responding to a writ filed by advocate Dhakal on Friday, stayed the government decision.
The SC again on February 13 issued a second stay order in response to a writ filed by DIG Nawa Raj Silwal who had also challenged the government decision to appoint Chand as the police chief.
