Thirty new buses of Sajha Yatayat are all set to start operation on four new routes of Kathmandu Valley from Sunday.
Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal is set to flag off the new buses amid a function in Lalitpur, said Mahendra Raj Pandey, acting chief executive officer of Sajha Yatayat.
“After the inauguration, the 30 buses will hit the road at 10am,” said Pandey.
The Bagmati Zonal Office of the Department of Transport Management last week approved the four routes as sought by Sajha Yatayat last week.
The buses were bought for Rs 3.5 million each, according to Pandey. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has invested Rs 100 million.
The 40-seater buses, manufactured by Ashok Leyland, India, can have ample space for passengers to stand in the aisle. Each bus can accommodate around 100 passengers.
With the addition of 30 more buses, the company now will be operating 46 buses.Sajha Yatayat has expanded its services to Bhairahawa, Gorkha, Lumbini and Baglung. According to Pandey, the transport company is planning to bring 10 deluxe buses which will be put on long routes.
