Sushil Khanal, assistant in-charge of the university committee of All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R), was arrested on Thursday for his alleged involvement in the vandalism, said police.
A group of about 15 ANNISU-R activists had barged into KU Vice Chancellor Ram Kantha Makaju’s office and vandalised office equipment, including a computer, a photocopy machine and a room heater on Monday.
SP Rajesh Nath Bastola said a case has been filed against Khanal under Public Offence Act as he was found involved in vandalising public property. Search is on to nab other persons involved in the incident, added SP Bastola.
The ANNISU-R university chapter said that they had to resort to vandalism after the university management ignored their requests to meet their demands.
The ANNISU-R had submitted a memorandum to the university authority, drawing its attention to its “disregard” for merit during admission in KU School of Medical Sciences and charging arbitrary fees by the colleges affiliated to
the university.
