The Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, is adopting Broken Window Theory (BWT) Policing to deal with organised crime and criminal activities in the Capital. In BWT law enforcement agency focuses on curbing small crimes and anti-social behaviours to create an environment of peace and order which, it is believed, can help prevent bigger crimes.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bikram Singh, who was recently appointed the police chief of Kathmandu, said in a press conference on Sunday that BWT  will be implemented along with the Police Service with Smile campaign to win the trust of people in police.

SSP Thapa also said that people who intimidate others or cause unrest using weapons will be dealt with severely.

He said that police will prepare its security strategy in adherence to scientific means to face the activities being carried out by the disgruntled side after the promulgation of the new constitution. 

Police also briefed the conference on a special security plan being introduced for this year’s festivals of Bada Dashain, Tihar and Chhath which encompasses a wide spectrum of activities from providing security at temples and religious shrines, controlling black market trading and food adulteration to offering security to public vehicles.
