The Constituent Assembly (CA) members who arrived at the CA building on Friday afternoon to have their signatures on the copy of the ' Constitution of Nepal, 2072' were effusively jubilant and proud of accomplishing the mandate the people had given them.
They were highly eager to share their happiness with the people and among themselves while attending the formal signing ceremony organized by the CA Secretariat from 9 am to 3 pm.
Nepali Congress CA member elected from Kaski-2 Sharada Poudel said she felt like heading to her district to share the happiness emanating from the fulfillment of the responsibility. "The commitment before the electorate to draft a new constitution through the CA has been realized," she said adding, "This is a day when the long held desire of the Nepali people has been accomplished; a democratic constitution has been drafted in the country."
Poudel further added that she planned to head to her district in the next one or two days to hold various programmes and share the happiness. The CA member was of the opinion that everyone should now launch the country on a path of economic prosperity and development.
UCPN (Maoist) CA member Ganeshman Pun from Rukum said the new constitution straddled a range of issues as federalism, identity and inclusiveness. Pun underscored the need to fully incorporate the demands of the marginalized communities and some fringe parties that were left out in the coming days.
"This constitution is a transformative constitution," he said adding, "We should address the demands of all the classes and communities as far as possible." He opined his eagerness to share the happiness among the electorate.
Likewise, CPN (UML) CA member Rajendra Pandey from Dhading district said the commitment to draft a new constitution within a year to propel the country forward on path of economic prosperity and development had been accomplished. Pandey shared that it was now time to commit towards developing the country.
"The aspirations harbored by the Nepali people since 2007 BS (1950) to draft a constitution through the CA has been achieved," he said pledging to organize a host of victory programmes in his district to share the joy.
CA member Lalendra Kumar Mandal from Mahottari termed the drafting of the new constitution a matter of happiness and called on the parties to address the reasonable demands raised in Tarai."We will hold Deepawali (lighting lamps) in Tarai region too on the happy occasion of the making of the new constitution," he said.
Nepali Congress CA member from Pancthar, Bhimaraj Angdambe said maximum demands raised by the voters had been incorporated in the constitution with the commitment for a constitution that will erase ethnic conflict and uphold identity.
Angdambe said he would go to his district to share the happiness after the promulgation of the new constitution. He said the demands that were left out would be addressed in the coming days gradually.
CPN (UML) CA member Sita Giri representing Kaski-4 said the constitution which encompassed the sentiments of many people was an important achievement of the Nepali people. She said programmes had already been arranged to share the happiness among the voters on the historic achievement.
Yogendra Ghising, who represents the UCPN (Maoist) from Lalitpur, said the momentous constitution making from the CA was an extremely important achievement for the country.
Ram Krishna Yadav representing the NC from Dhanusha district said the promise of bringing federal democratic republican constitution to the people had been accomplished.
He was reminiscent of the desire of late NC founding leader BP Koirala to draft a constitution through the CA 65 years ago. He said the desire had now gained a substantive form.
