The highest average day temperature in the Valley was 30 one week ago.

Likewise, many districts in the Eastern, Central and Western regions have also seen rising mercury levels in the recent days.

Normal life across southern and some hill districts has been severely affected owing the continuous rise in temperatures as well as heat waves, particularly in the Far-Western Tarai districts, for the past one week. Market places have remained almost closed during the afternoons while the movement of people has become less frequent as extreme heat conditions persist in Dhangadhi.

Some schools have closed their primary-level classes owing to excessive heat. Likewise, the number of patients—mostly children, the elderly, pregnant and nourishing women—suffering from various heat-related illnesses has increased, said Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Seti Zonal Hospital in-charge.

In Banke, people are staying inside their houses most of the times and market places have been shut during the afternoon for the past two weeks due to severe heat conditions.

On Saturday, Bhairahawa, among 19 meteorological stations in the country, recorded the highest day temperature at 43.3 degree Celsius followed by Nepalgunj, Dipayal, Dhangadhi, Janakpur, Simara, Birendranagar and Dang at 42.6, 41.5, 41.3, 41.2, 39.8, 39.2and 38.2 degree Celsius respectively.

“The weather is likely to be cloudy in the Eastern region with partly clouds in the Central and Western hilly regions on Sunday. Temporary rains or thundershowers are possible at a few places of the Eastern region while the heat condition will continue in many places for the next few days,” said Barun Poudel, an official at the Meteorological Forecasting Division.
