One dead, 8 hurt in road accident
At least one person died and eight others were injured when a passenger bus turned on its side in Teku, Kathmandu, on Tuesday morning. The helper of the bus Kushal Gurung, 25, died when the speeding bus (Ba 1 Kha 9541) heading to Kalimati from Tripureshower met an accident while attempting to save a rickshaw plying the same road.
Gurung, who sustained severe injuries, was declared dead at Bir Hospital, according to the Metropolitan Police Range in Hanumandhoka.
The injured passengers have been discharged after receiving treatment at the hospital.
DSP Dinesh Acharya said preliminary investigation shows that over-speeding and lack of lane discipline by rickshaw caused the accident.
He said they have taken the bus driver into custody and further investigation into the case is under way.
In October last year, three people died when a bus crushed four motorcycles in front of the Kathmandu District Court in Babarmahal. The bus apparently skidded to the left after hitting a road island on its right on one of the busiest roads in the Valley.
