Activists from all around the world will be participating in various programme on February 14, 2015. Many organisations in Nepal advocating women’s issues will be supporting the drive. Different events have been planned to mark the beginning of the campaign in Kathmandu.  Ani Choying will be felicitated with the Meeto Memorial Award for her contribution.

Likewise, the launch will also see the participation of Charlotte Bunch, founding director of Centre for Women’s Global Leadership, and Monique Wilson, the director for the One billion rising campaign, who is an award winning actress from the Philippines.  

According to Kamla Bhasin, campaign’s South Asia coordinator and feminist activist, women have been appealed to participate in the programme. “The time has come when we encourage men, our brothers, sons and husbands to participate in the campaign and put an end to the violence,” said Bhasin.

Speaking at a press meet on Monday,  former member of National Human Rights Commission Gauri Pradhan said men should take up the mantle of domestic violence against women to truly bring about the change as envisaged by the campaign. “This is not only a women’s right issue this is a human rights issue,” he said.  Deputy Speaker at the Constituent Assembly Onsari Gharti assured her full support to the campaign.
