A parliamentary panel under Sadbhawana Party lawmaker Laxman Lal Karna has started investigation into the alleged vote rigging in the Constituent Assembly election of November 19, 2013.The panel has registered 10 complaints from various political parties, including the UCPN (Maoist), on electoral fraud. The investigation has been initiated based on the complaints.
The panel has the mandate of investigating the alleged vote rigging and making recommendations to make the elections free and fair in the coming days. The meeting of the panel on Monday decided to hold consultations with the political parties, representatives of the security agencies, Election Commission, and other stake holders on these two issues.
The meeting also dispatched the copies of a letter to the concerned parties and organisations, seeking their suggestions on making the election free and far on the basis of their past experience. “We will hold an intensive
discussion to make sure the election process is free and fair in the coming days,” said Karna.
Soon after the election result was out, the UCPN (Maoist), some Madhes-based parties and a few fringe parties, had accused of electoral fraud and demanded an investigation be launched.
UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Hitraj Pandey has registered a complaint, claiming that there had been policy and institutional vote-rigging in the CA election and demanded investigation into the matter, though the party has already concluded that internal factors were responsible for the party’s unexpected loss in the polls. The party has warned that it will not participate in the constitution drafting process, if the vote rigging is not investigated.
The Federal Socialist Party-Nepal, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and some individual candidates have also recorded complaints of electoral fraud and irregularities at the panel.
