Nepal kept their hopes of reaching the final of the SAFF U19 Women’s Championship alive with a 2–1 victory over Bhutan at Pokhara Stadium on Monday.
Nepal took the lead in the 36th minute through Srijana Baduwal, who capitalised on sustained pressure as the hosts dominated much of the first half. Despite creating several chances, Nepal were unable to add to their advantage before the break.
Nepal doubled their lead in the 69th minute when Prajita Rai, who had come on for Sangita Malla in the 27th minute, found the back of the net. Bhutan pulled one goal back late in the match, with Sonam Choden scoring in the 87th minute, but it proved too little, too late.
Baduwal was named Player of the Match for her influential performance.
Bangladesh remain top of the standings and are close to securing a place in the final, while Bhutan, having lost both their matches, are out of contention. Nepal, who had earlier lost 1–0 to India, are ahead of India on goal difference.
Earlier on Monday, India were beaten 2–0 by Bangladesh. Nepal will face Bangladesh on Wednesday, while India take on Bhutan.
The top two teams in the standings will qualify for the final. While Bangladesh have most likely qualified for the final, their opponent will be decided on Wednesday, when Nepal will face Bangladesh and India will face Bhutan.
