National men’s cricketers, coach to get Rs300,000 each
CAN further decided to include eight franchise teams in the Nepal Premier League.Sports Bureau
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Thursday decided to reward the players and head coach of the national men’s cricket team with Rs300,000 each in recognition for their performance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The men’s cricket team failed to win a single match but had come agonisingly close to pulling off an upset victory against a Test cricket-playing nation South Africa in the group stage, falling short by just one run.
The Rohit Paudel’s team also had Bangladesh on the ropes with their outstanding bowling display that restricted the Tigers to a low 106 total, though Nepal eventually lost by 21 runs.
CAN, in its central working committee meeting, also decided to provide Rs150,000 to officials of Nepal’s World Cup team as incentives.
The cricket governing body in a statement said it will also introduce a monthly remuneration of Rs15,000 to 35 players—five cricketers (two female and three male players) from every province—effective from September 1 for one year.
CAN further decided to include eight franchise teams in the Nepal Premier League, which is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 21.
CAN has also decided to start the first stage of the closed camp for the U-19 women’s cricket team from September 15 as part of its preparation for the upcoming ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup Asia Qualifiers.
