Dolakha

The death toll from the landslide in Ramechhap has risen to six, with four more bodies retrieved from the debris. Earlier in the morning, rescuers had pulled out two bodies.

According to the police, the deceased include 30-year-old Chandika Thapa Magar, a pre-primary teacher, and her 18-month-old son; 40-year-old Urmila Pahari; 17-year-old Sandeep Pahari; 18-year-old Bijayan Pahari; and 14-year-old Santosh Pahari.

Ten-year-old Anjana Pahari was rescued with injuries.

Four individuals remain missing after the landslide in ward 3 of Doramba Sailung Rural Municipality swept away five homes on Saturday night. They are 75-year-old Fadke Pahari, 55-year-old Kale Pahari, 54-year-old Jhyaukiri Pahari, and 23-year-old Binda Pahari.

According to Anita Niraula, chief district officer of Ramechhap, efforts to locate the missing persons are ongoing. She said the entire settlement, which consists of 30 households, is at risk of further landslides.

“We are on our way to the landslide-hit area,” Niraula told the Post. “Thirty more houses are in danger, and the search for the missing individuals is ongoing. We will have more details once we reach the site.”

The landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall on Saturday night, has also disrupted the road networks in the area. Flooding in local rivers has damaged two motorable bridges. The Milti River Bridge, located on the Ramechhap-Dolakha border, has also suffered damage from floods.
