Families of those injured in a bus accident at ward 11 of Bardibas Municipality have blocked the BP Highway, saying the victims have not received proper treatment even weeks after the crash.
The passenger bus, operated by BP Yatayat Pvt Ltd, was travelling from Gharibathan in Sarlahi to Kathmandu when it overturned in Khairmara on October 5.
Six critically injured passengers were airlifted to Kathmandu the same day. However, the victims’ families said treatment was halted due to the lack of coordination between the transport entrepreneurs’ association and the bus operator.
According to Nawaraj Bisankhe, a relative of one of the injured, several patients admitted to hospitals in Kathmandu have been unable to buy medicines due to financial problems, prompting them to block the highway.
Among those injured from the same family of Bardibas-11 are 41-year-old Gita Kumari BK, her son Hiralal, daughter-in-law Buddhimaya, and niece Sunita BK, who are undergoing treatment at Bhaktapur International Hospital.
Similarly, Dirjaman Gole, 40, his wife Nirmala Tamang, 44, and their 16-year-old daughter Asmita from Bardibas–10, along with 23-year-old Bina Bisankhe from Bardibas–11, are receiving treatment at the National Trauma Centre. Two others are being treated at Patan Hospital, according to the victims’ families.
Ward 10 chair Pramod Moktan said locals were forced to close the highway after the transport company and bus owner failed to take responsibility for the critically injured passengers.
The bus had lost control and crashed through the wall of Laxminarayan Secondary School in Khairmara, killing one person on the spot and another during treatment. Around 40 passengers were injured in the incident. Protesters have warned that the blockade will continue until the victims’ treatment is guaranteed.
