An 80-year-old man, Ramzan Dewan, has died following a family dispute over Wi-Fi usage in Pokhariya Municipality, Parsa. According to Area Police Office Pokhariya, the incident occurred on Monday evening around 4 pm.
The elderly man was allegedly assaulted by his 20-year-old grandson, Azad Dewan, and 18-year-old granddaughter, Khushbu Khatun. The two accused are currently in police custody at the Area Police Office, Pokhariya, under suspicion of murder. The Parsa District Court has granted police an extension of three days remand to continue their investigation.
The conflict reportedly began when Azad and Khushbu accused their aunt, Dai Khatun, of misusing their Wi-Fi password, which led to them disconnecting the internet line. He was rushed to Narayani Hospital in Birgunj, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The deceased’s wife, Khadija Khatun, filed a formal complaint with the police. A post-mortem examination of Ramzan’s body has been conducted, but the results are yet to be released.
