Relatives of a woman who died due to alleged medical negligence vandalised a health post at Shivanagar Bazar in ward 5 of Garuda Municipality in Rautahat district on Friday afternoon.
The situation has remained tense, with a heavy security presence around the facility as negotiations between the victim’s family and health post officials continue into the evening.
The deceased, 25-year-old Ramita Devi, was admitted for delivery on Thursday, with Senior Auxiliary Health Worker Ram Naresh Sah overseeing the procedure. Following the delivery, Ramita began bleeding profusely and was referred to Birgunj for further treatment. She was declared dead upon arrival at the Nepal-Indo Hospital in Birgunj.
In response, the family placed her body in front of the health post, accusing the medical staff of negligence.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Eliza Giri of the District Police Office, Rautahat, said glass windows at the health post were smashed during the attack.
In addition, the victim’s relatives have blocked the Garuda-Chapur road section as part of their protest. Garuda Municipality Mayor Kanthamani Jaiswal is currently discussing with the victim’s family to resolve the matter.
