Bhuwan Kumar Pathak, speaker of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly, has submitted his resignation to Deputy Speaker Apsara Chapagain.
Pathak said continuing in office would be inappropriate amid public grief and against the sentiments of the youth.
In his resignation letter, he wrote that he had announced his intention to resign on social media on September 9, but technical issues delayed the formal process. He said that he is now resigning in accordance with the constitution and the Bagmati Provincial Assembly Rules.
Pathak was elected to the provincial assembly from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
