The body of a 20-year-old Nepali student was recovered on the banks of the Thames river in Waterloo, London, on Tuesday. The deceased, Sushan Oli, was originally from Musikot Municipality-12, Rukum West, and was in his second year of undergraduate studies in Business Management and Leadership at Coventry University.
Oli had been living at Dagenham Heathway in London. After recovering the body, the London Metropolitan Police conducted inquiries with his neighbours and Nepali friends from Coventry University.
Biplav Khadka, president of the UK Nepali Independent Student Society and a student at Coventry University, stated that the Police found Oli’s body on Tuesday. The police confirmed his identity on Friday, using the fingerprint analysis with a copy of Oli’s fingerprint sent from Nepal, Khadka added.
Sushan had been out of contact since April 21, 2025, prompting concerns among his family in Nepal. Bipin Duwadi, spokesperson and deputy head of mission at the Nepali Embassy in London, said the Embassy has been providing regular updates to Oli’s family.
The Embassy was alerted to Oli’s disappearance on April 23. The cause of death remains unknown. Police recovered Oli’s wallet, documents, room key, passport and mobile phone at the scene.
According to Duwadi, preliminary investigations, including the CCTV footage review and call log analysis, indicate no suspicious circumstances.
Oli’s body is currently in a morgue awaiting post-mortem examination, Duwadi said. The family will decide whether to repatriate his body to Nepal or conduct final rites in the UK.
