Three people, including a 12-year-old boy, were killed after a truck hit pedestrians and a cyclist along the Taulihawa–Bahadurganj postal road in Kapilvastu on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place near Gaindahawa Chowk in Maharajgunj Municipality-2 when a truck, travelling from Bahadurganj towards Taulihawa, struck the victims.

According to district police, the victims were identified as 12-year-old local resident Ananda Kahar, 75-year-old Gholhar Kurmi of Maharajgunj Municipality-3, and 45-year-old Vijay Kumar Baniya.

The accident occurred at around 7:15am when the speeding truck, which was carrying alcohol, hit the victims.

Following the incident, angry locals gathered at the site, leaving the area tense until around 10am. The situation later returned to normal and traffic resumed, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Ripendra Kumar Singh, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kapilvastu.
