Technical glitch disrupts online land services
A fault in the Department of Land Management and Archives’ public access system has delayed land transactions and other services for two days.Prakriti Dahal
A technical problem has disrupted the online public service system operated by the Department of Land Management and Archive for the past two days, affecting land-related services and causing inconvenience to thousands of users.
The disruption stems from a fault in the department’s Public Access Module (PAM), an online platform used by the public to access land administration services.
According to a notice issued by the department on Thursday, the technical issue will continue to affect services until July 17.
Software failures affecting Nepal’s land administration and land revenue systems have become a recurring problem, frequently disrupting public services and delaying transactions.
A department official, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media, said the problem was affecting the system used by service seekers, legal document preparers and banking institutions to submit online request forms.
As a result, applications to freeze land transactions, process property transfers and complete other land-related procedures through the public portal have been disrupted.
The official said the problem was caused by excessive traffic on the system.
“The issue is with the platform provided to the public,” the official said. “The department’s internal system is still functioning, and we have been providing services through the land administration service desk.”
Staff have been accepting applications manually over the past two days to minimise disruption, the official said.
“It appears the system came under excessive load,” the official added. “We are working to restore it by Friday.”
