RSP extends lead in both FPTP and proportional votes
Party wins 78 constituencies, leads in 44 others.Post Report
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) continues to dominate the first-past-the-post (FPTP) vote count, winning 78 seats and leading in 44 other constituencies, according to the latest Election Commission tally.
The Nepali Congress has won 12 seats and is leading in six constituencies, while CPN-UML has secured five seats and is ahead in seven constituencies. The Nepali Communist Party has won three seats and is leading in five constituencies. The Rastriya Prajatantra Party has one win, the Shram Sanskriti Party is leading in two constituencies, and independent candidate Mahabir Pun has also claimed one seat.
Among the notable victories, RSP senior leader Balendra Shah achieved a landslide win in Jhapa-5, defeating UML chair and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli by 49,614 votes. Shah secured 68,348 votes, while Oli received 18,734 votes.
Nepali Communist Party's coordinator and former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has won from Rukum East. Dahal got 10,240 votes while his nearest rival CPN-UML candidate managed to get 3,462 votes.
RSP chair Rabi Lamichhane was elected from Chitwan-2 with a wide margin, securing 54,402 votes against Nepali Congress candidate Mina Kumari Kharel’s 14,564 votes.
Swarnim Wagle of RSP has also claimed a victory with remarkable margin. While Wagle secured 38,o40 votes and defeated Nepali Congress candidate Govind Bhattarai maintaining the vote difference of 21,809 votes. Bhattarai got 16, 231 votes.
In Rupandehi-3, RSP candidate Dr Lekh Jung Thapa won decisively, with all 35 other candidates losing their election deposits after failing to reach the 10% vote threshold.
Based on the ongoing federal proportional representation (PR) count, the Rastriya Swatantra Party is leading with 565,840 votes. Nepali Congress follows with 190,010 votes, CPN-UML with 149,894 votes, and the Nepali Communist Party with 75,245 votes.
Other parties include the Rastriya Prajatantra Party with 40,918 votes, Shram Sanskriti Party with 19,829 votes, and Rastriya Pariwartan Party (Ujyalo Nepal Party) with 15,392 votes. Smaller parties, including Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) and Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, have received 4,559 and 4,152 votes respectively. The figures are preliminary and reflect submissions from polling centres nationwide.
