The Election Commission has enforced the Election Code of Conduct, 2026, from today.
The code applies to the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5. It was approved and published in the Nepal Gazette to ensure the election is free, fair, transparent, and conducted in a fear-free environment.
The code will remain in effect for various agencies and individuals until further notice.
The code covers the federal and provincial governments and their ministers, constitutional bodies and officials, local executives and members, employees of government, semi-government, and public institutions, security personnel, political parties, and their affiliated organisations.
It also applies to candidates and related individuals, election representatives, polling and counting agents, monitoring committee officials, observers, media institutions and personnel, private and non-governmental organisations and staff, educational institutions and employees, voters, development partners, and organisations running voter education programmes.
In addition, banks and financial institutions, cooperatives, business and industrial entities, and other bodies or individuals designated by the commission fall under the code.
“The commission expects full cooperation from all concerned for effective implementation and adherence to the code of conduct,” said commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
