Kathmandu administration denies permission for Gen Z protest, demonstrators dispersed
Officials say organisers sought approval on day of planned demonstration.Post Report
The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, said on Monday it had denied permission to a Gen Z group led by Miraj Dhungana to stage a protest, citing procedural requirements.
Assistant Chief District Officer and information officer Muktiram Rijal said the group approached the administration at around 10 am on the day of the planned protest, seeking approval.
“They came today seeking permission for today’s protest. There is a set procedure for granting protest permission, and approval is not given immediately on request,” Rijal said.
He said such a permission is issued only after consultations with security agencies. Rijal added that the organisers had been told not to proceed with the protest and warned that the administration would act according to the law if the order was defied.

Dhungana runs a campaign called “Gari Khana Deu”, translated as ‘let us earn a living’. The Gen Z group had announced a protest at Maitighar Mandala from 11am on Monday.
Police later removed some demonstrators from the Maitighar Mandala area, saying the protest was held without permission. Protesters chanted slogans, accusing the police of intervening during the action.
Protesters also chanted slogans demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sushila Karki and the formation of a consensus government that includes all sides.
Only on October 18, a group of Gen Z youths led by Dhungana announced the formation of a new party. Dhungana, however, said the party will not participate in the March 5 elections until the demand for a directly elected prime ministerial system is met.
