Nepal and Germany mark 50 years of technical cooperation
Long-standing partnership celebrated with focus on sustainable future.Post Report
Germany and Nepal on Friday marked 50 years of technical cooperation, bringing together government officials, development partners, and collaborators at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit premises in Khumaltar.
The event, themed “Woven Through Time, Shaping Tomorrow Together”, highlighted milestones from Bhaktapur’s heritage preservation in the 1970s to current initiatives in energy, health, and sustainable economic development.
The partnership has expanded over the decades to include GIZ, KfW Development Bank, and PTB, each contributing expertise in technical cooperation, financial support, and quality assurance across sectors, the organisation said.
Today, the cooperation aligns closely with Nepal’s national priorities and global commitments, it added.
Minister for Finance Rameshore Prasad Khanal described the partnership as a story of trust, cooperation, and shared aspirations. He called for deeper collaboration in renewable energy, public health, sustainable infrastructure, inclusive economic growth, and improved revenue systems. “Let this golden jubilee be a renewed beginning, a call to collaboration, shared purpose, and continued progress toward a greener, healthier, and more equitable Nepal,” he said.
German Ambassador Udo Volz reflected on the origins of the partnership with the restoration of Bhaktapur, noting its evolution from preserving heritage to providing digital solutions and preparing for the future.
GIZ Country Representative Paulina Campos Monteros described the organisation as a long-term partner, connecting actors, supporting innovation, and turning ideas into sustainable systems.
