The bodies of two Indian nationals who had gone missing in Manang district since October 26 have been recovered, according to the Armed Police Force (APF). The deceased have been identified as 52-year-old Jignesh Kumar Lalubhai Patel and his 17-year-old daughter, Priyangshi Kumari Patel.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Thapa, spokesperson of APF, said a mountain rescue team found their bodies on Sunday afternoon, buried under snow about 100 metres above Milarepa Monastery in Manang Ngisyang Rural Municipality–4.
The father and daughter had left Gyaltsen Hotel on October 26, saying they were going to visit the monastery, but had remained out of contact since. Following their disappearance, the hotel had informed the APF’s Mountain Rescue Training Centre in Manang.
A search team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Hira Bahadur GC, equipped with rescue materials, was later deployed.
The bodies have been retrieved and efforts are underway to bring them down from the site, officials said.
