The Nursing Association of Nepal (NAN) has called for the immediate enforcement of the government’s directive on minimum remuneration for nurses.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, NAN said hospitals have ignored the directive issued on October 10, which requires all health institutions to pay nurses the minimum wage. The association said that despite the government fixing the basic monthly salary for fifth-level health workers at Rs34,000 from October 13, many nurses are still receiving as little as Rs15,000.
NAN said the failure to implement the directive has caused growing frustration among nurses employed in teaching, government, private, and community hospitals nationwide.
