Two men electrocuted in separate incidents in Jhapa by electric traps set for fishing within three days.
The first incident occurred on October 16 at Nilkothi of Mechinagar Municipality-15. Santosh Limbu, 42, was electrocuted while using electricity to catch fish in the Timai canal near his home.
He was rushed to Mechi Amda Hospital in Dhulabari, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. On Sunday, a similar accident took place in Kachankawal Rural Municipality-2. Lok Bahadur Gaine, 49, died after accidentally coming into contact with a live wire while fishing in the Amalkhutta stream, police said.
Police confirmed that both deaths occurred while illegally fishing with electric current. The District Police Office, Jhapa, said investigations are ongoing.
Experts warn that such illegal practices not only cause fatalities but also disrupt ecological balance and endanger aquatic life.
