Eight rivers exceed danger levels, 12 above alert mark
Flood risk remains high as water levels rise in Koshi, Bagmati, and Madhesh provinces.
Post Report
Continuous rainfall has pushed eight major rivers past the danger level, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reported on Sunday morning.
Flood measurement centres for the Bagmati, Sun Koshi, Arun, Tamor, Koshi, Budhikhola–Sunsari, and Biring Khola in Jhapa show water levels above the danger mark.
Binod Parajuli, head of the department’s Flood Forecasting Division, said 12 other river centres remain above the alert level. He added that water levels are rising in Koshi Province, while in Bagmati and parts of Madhesh Province, levels are stable or slowly receding.
The division also noted that flows in other rivers and streams across Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces are nearing the alert level. Rainfall intensity in Bagmati and Madhesh is gradually easing, but moderate to heavy rain continues in parts of Koshi Province.
The department warned that this weather pattern is expected to continue for several hours, with a high flood risk for the affected rivers until this evening and a medium risk persisting until Monday morning.
