Two die in separate incidents in Kalikot
One slips off cliff while collecting grass, another electrocuted in IndiaTularam Pandey
Two men from Shubha Kalika Rural Municipality in Kalikot district have lost their lives in separate incidents, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Rajaram Acharya, 38, of Shubha Kalika-6, Haudi, died after slipping from a cliff while returning home with fodder for his cattle. According to local teacher Laxiram Acharya, Rajaram fell nearly 300 metres down the Marilopata cliff. He was cremated on Saturday.
In a separate incident, Manraj Shahi, 23, of Shuba Kalika-5, was electrocuted while working on an electric pole in India, where he had gone for labour work a year ago. His paternal aunt, Sita Shahi, said efforts are under way to repatriate his body.
According to Govinda Prasad Chaudhary, spokesperson for the District Police Office, incidents of people falling from cliffs are alarmingly frequent in Kalikot. “In the past year alone, 43 people have died after falling from cliffs,” he said.
