A team from Bardibas office of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) detained the mayor from municipal office itself while collecting the bribe.
Ram Pukar Sah, mayor of Kalyanpur Municipality in Siraha district, was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs100,000 on Wednesday.
A team from Bardibas office of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) detained Sah from the municipal office itself while collecting the bribe.
According to the anti-graft body, Sah had demanded a 20 percent commission from a consumer committee overseeing a drainage project worth Rs2 million.
After the committee refused to pay, Sah allegedly withheld the project cheque. Following a week of negotiations, Sah agreed to release the cheque only after receiving Rs100,000 in advance, with the remaining amount to be paid after the cheque was cleared.
A detailed investigation is underway into the case, said CIAA Bardibas chief Ram Bahadur Kurumbang.
