A 72-year-old man was killed after a fire broke out in a two-storey animal shed in Gauriganga Municipality-10, Jwalpur, in western Nepal's Kailali district on Sunday night, police confirmed.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ran Bahadur Chand, chief of the Area Police Office Malakheti, said that the fire engulfed the wooden shed belonging to Anil Chaudhary, resulting in the death of his father, Kukru Dagoura Tharu, who was asleep on the upper floor at the time.
A police team led by Sub-Inspector Khemraj Pant responded to the incident and extinguished the fire, but by then, the shed had been completely destroyed. The cause of the fire remains unknown, police said.
“The fire was reported late at night and had already spread extensively by the time we arrived,” said DSP Chand. “Unfortunately, the elderly man could not be rescued.”
No other injuries were reported, and further investigation is underway to determine the origin of the blaze.
