Young man dies of electrocution while fishing in river using electric current

A 20-year-old man died of electrocution while attempting to catch fish using electric current in a river in Panchthar district on Sunday.
According to the District Police Office, the deceased has been identified as Isara Thegim, son of Dilkumar Thegim, a resident of Miklajung Rural Municipality–6, Lumangdin.
Thegim was electrocuted while using a generator to release current into the Nawa River in Miklajung–6, police said.
“Electric current passed through his body while operating the generator in the river,” informed Inspector Rupesh Tamang, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Panchthar. “He died on the spot.”
Upon receiving information about the incident, a team from the Khandrong Area Police Office was deployed to the scene. Police recovered Thegim’s body from the river.
His body was taken to the Primary Health Centre in Ravi for post-mortem examination on Sunday, police confirmed.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
