Leduwa stream bridge in Dharan left incomplete for four years
The bridge is crucial for connecting wards 4 and 5, yet residents continue to struggle, especially during monsoons.
Post Report
The construction of a bridge over the Leduwa stream at Devigaun in ward 5 of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City has been left incomplete for four years, causing hardship for locals.
Originally scheduled for completion by July 2021, only 64 percent of the work has been completed so far. The bridge is crucial for connecting wards 4 and 5, yet residents continue to struggle, especially during monsoons.
Children must cross the river to attend school and locals even risk their lives using bamboo rafts to transport the sick. The lack of the bridge has severely impacted agricultural trade as well. The Physical Infrastructure Development Ministry of Koshi Province assigned the World Trade Construction Company to construct the bridge at Rs12.18 million in 2020. The deadlines have already been extended twice.
With the latest deadline approaching in June 2025, authorities, including Minister Bhupendra Rai, recently inspected the site. The contractor has now promised to complete the project by mid-June.
Officials have warned of legal action if further delays occur, raising hopes among residents for long-awaited relief.
