Three dead, 40 injured in bus accident in Kathmandu

A bus accident in Shankharapur Municipality-5, Kathmandu, has claimed three lives and left 40 people injured, according to the local police. Superintendent of Police (SP) Apilraj Bohara said the accident occurred at around 4:50 pm on Wednesday when the driver allegedly lost control of the bus while approaching Sankhu, on the outskirts of Kathmandu.
The bus belonging to Sundarijal Yatayat was one of the two vehicles rented by Chabahil-based SS Academy, Bohara said. Over 92 people were on board in the two buses.
The identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed.
Rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene and the injured were rushed to various hospitals, including People’s Life Care Hospital in Shankharapur, Nepal Medical College in Jorpati, and the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj for treatment.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident, with brake failure suspected to be a factor.
