Five Nepalis killed in road accident while returning from Kumbha Mela

Five Nepali pilgrims were killed in a road accident in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on Sunday evening while returning from the Maha Kumbha Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
According to Deputy Inspector General Lalmani Acharya, the victims, all from Mahottari district, were travelling in an SUV with the number plate BR 32 PA 4661. The vehicle was carrying nine Nepali pilgrims. The accident occurred when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid a bicycle, causing the vehicle to crash onto the road.
Four pilgrims died on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries during treatment. The deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Mantarni Devi, 30-year-old Archana Thakur, 60-year-old Balkrishna Jha, 55-year-old Indu Devi, and the vehicle’s driver, whose name has not yet been disclosed but is reportedly from Siraha.
Among the injured are 30-year-old Manohar Thakur, a traffic police officer, along with 25-year-old Kamini Jha, 7-year-old Srishti Thakur, and 50-year-old Jagtaran Devi. They are currently receiving treatment at Shri Krishna Medical College (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur.
DIG Acharya stated that Nepal Police was informed of the accident by Bihar authorities after discovering that a Nepali police officer was among the victims. “We are gathering more details about the incident,” he said.
Police are conducting further investigations.
