A female elephant, approximately 7-8 years old, has been found dead in ward 3 of Belbari Municipality in Morang.
Initial investigations suggest that the elephant may have died from electric shock, police said.
This year alone, half a dozen elephants have been killed in Jhapa, Morang, and Sunsari districts.
Most of these deaths have been attributed to electrocution. In some cases, firearms have also been used to kill elephants.
