Chinese Vice Minister Sun concludes three-day visit

Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Sun Weidong has concluded his three-day official visit to Nepal and departed from Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Krishna Prasad Dhakal, joint secretary and head of the North East Asia Division of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, bade him farewell at the Tribhuvan International Airport today.
Before leaving, he paid a courtesy call to President Ramchandra Paudel earlier in the day.
During the meeting held at Sheetal Niwas, the President noted that Nepal and China had shared an important and long-running development partnership and that it had always contributed to Nepal’s development plans for over seven decades, said the Office of the President in a statement issued after the meeting.
Paudel also stated Nepal’s plans of graduating from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) in 2026 and expressed his belief that the northern neighbour would continue to aid Nepal even after graduation.
He recalled how the two countries shared a cordial people-to-people relationship and that historical figures like Aranico had contributed to spreading the relationship and cultural exchange between the Asian neighbours.
The Chinese Vice Minister Sun also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha earlier today.
They discussed various matters of bilateral relations and cooperation during the occasion, the foreign ministry said. They also discussed bringing various cross-border trade points into operation.
He had called on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal earlier on Monday.
Sun and his delegation arrived in Kathmandu on a three-day official visit on Monday.
The Chinese Vice Minister also led the Chinese delegation at the 16th meeting of Nepal-China Diplomatic Consultation Mechanism on Tuesday.
Both countries stressed the need to further activate the existing bilateral mechanisms and establish new ones, including the Joint Commission at the foreign ministers-level.
