CPN-UML vice chair Ram Bahadur Thapa has been unanimously elected the party's parliamentary party leader. Thapa was the sole candidate to file for the post, leading to his election, said Niraj Acharya, coordinator of the election committee.
Suhang Nembang, who had earlier expressed interest in the post, could not find any proposers and seconders for his candidacy. The parliamentary party meeting held earlier on Wednesday failed to reach an agreement on a unanimous candidate, prompting the decision to proceed with the election process.
Party Chair KP Sharma Oli, who previously served as parliamentary party leader, lost the March 5 parliamentary election in Jhapa-5 to Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
