Four arrested on charge of embezzling cooperative funds

Police on Sunday arrested four individuals, including the chairman of a Kathmandu-based cooperative, on charges of embezzling millions of rupees deposited by hundreds of people.
The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office paraded them during a press meet.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sanuram Bhattarai, head of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, said those arrested are 43-year-old Tej Bikram Thapa, 44-year-old Sajana Rajkarnikar, 47-year-old Sanjay Sapkota, and 53-year-old Bhimsen Maharjan.
Thapa, from Tanahun, is the chairman of Krishi Bikash Multipurpose Cooperative, while Rajkarnikar, from Gokarneshwar, Kathmandu, is the manager.
Similarly, Maharjan from Kirtipur and Sapkota from Chabahil in Kathmandu are also members of the cooperative.
A total of 566 people have filed complaints against them, said SP Thapa, adding that they have been accused of embezzling Rs 942.34 million.
Police said they recovered six mobile phones, three pen drives, three signed checks, a van, and a stamp of the cooperative, among other items, from their possession.
